Summer Vashon 2026 Highlights

The Summer Vashon Race was held on June 13, 2026. Commodore Dave Pickard and Rear Commodore AJ Stark started the morning with the ceremonial firing of the cannon. Rear Commodore Stark and Greg Stark then boarded the Race Committee Start Boat to observe the very slow-motion start of the race. Some two hours after the race start and one races already retiring and motoring to the Tides Tavern, the contestants got to Point Dalco where the wind had filled in. By the time the fleet got to Olalla to round the turn mark and head home, the Sail Chair was wondering if the pre-race decision to shorten the course was a mistake. It wasn’t! As the vessels made the return trip down Colvos Pass back to TYC the wind faded and the fleet was at the mercy of the current. Some experienced the agony of light wind getting the boat moving to overcome the current, only for the wind to die and have the current push you backwards when only a few boat lengths from the finish line. Eventually, the wind filled in around 5 pm for a slow speed finish for the last three racers to cross the finish in within three seconds of each other.
